As we all adjust to our “new normals” - more time at home, more time with family, a slower pace to life - the trends we are likely to see emerge in our homes, sure enough, will follow. Small Space Solutions

As people spend more time in their small homes or apartments. they’ll look to create small space solutions. Some of our favorites, like adding casters to furniture to allow things to easily move around, will become popular. As will features like built-in seating, shown here, or the use of benches that can tuck under tables and create more space.

Sustainability

While the concept of sustainable home decor becomes more important, this will also translate into the use of more organic shapes and textures. We see the return of rattan and wicker, cane front cabinets and natural materials throughout the home.

Comfort is Key

Just like the loungewear boom happening now, there will likely be a shift towards comfort in all things, including home. Fabrics like shearling and velvet will be incorporated into the home to create a cozy atmosphere and calming colors will prevail.

A Focus on Health

Lastly, we couldn’t agree more with this article from Real Simple on how coronavirus will affect design trends. A focus on health will surely become top of mind. Materials that have microbial properties like copper, brass and bronze will become popular in fixtures, as will things like bidets and no-touch faucets.

The Home Office

As we talked about in our last post, the home office is at the top of everyone’s mind right now. As many experts predict that the WFH culture will only continue to grow, the home office becomes a must-have, not just a nice-to-have. We’ll see more emphasis put on creating a functional and beautiful home office space, for small and large spaces alike.
