Looking Ahead: How To Plan For Your Home Renovation

In these uncertain times, things feel like they are changing on a daily basis. But, there’s one thing that remains a constant through all of it. Our homes.

As we hunker down, stay home, begin to live more slowly and take time to reflect, it’s a great time to take stock - to organize, to minimize and of course, to dream up your home renovation.

But where to begin? We’re breaking down the renovation process to help you map out how, and where, to get started.

When we sit down with a client looking to embark on a renovation, we begin with these fundamental pillars:

  • Concept - Develop your vision. The improvement options may seem endless, so getting hyper-clear on the end goal is our first step. Make sure you have a clear picture of the finished product you desire so we can work backwards from there.

  • Inspiration/Images - This is the fun part! The resources for gathering home design inspiration are everywhere. From Houzz to Pinterest to Instagram, start building an inspiration board. Working with a professional helps to make sure your vision can be married with your current style.

  • Project scope - It’s crucial to determine the different components you want to tackle in your renovation. Will you be doing a full kitchen tear down? Or just replacing countertops and backsplash for a refreshed look? The scope will provide a framework for the next component…the budget.

  • Budget - Working together to build a budget that is both realistic and comprehensive is a huge priority for us. We pride ourselves on honesty and transparency, so we want to make sure to establish a budget that everyone is comfortable with.

From here, we develop a proposal that includes a design overview and estimated costs. We’re grateful to be able to work virtually with our clients, so that no project needs to come to a halt even as we physically distance from others. We’re still and up and running at Alicia Weaver Design and currently offering virtual consultations for projects large and small. Send us an email and we’d love to help you get started.
